Drinking with a Lizard
Allan Waller arranged our second run for the year (17 February 2018) to the Laughing Lizard Micro Brewery at Arundel on the Gold Coast just near Harbour Town. The drive down the M1 Motorway was uneventful even though the traffic was heavy as usual on this roadway. We were met at the premises by co-owner of the business Gary, who, with his brother John, opened the brewery in 2007 and now have a thriving business with faithful clientele who can buy their favourite beer in either keg or bottle. Laughing Lizard make 150 different beers with no chemicals or preservatives including beers from all over the world and even “Gluten Free Beer”. For those who like to make their own beer and spirits at home, they also have everything one needs in the Home Brew Shop.
While we were there, regular customers were coming and going bringing in empty kegs and taking away full ones. There was also a couple in the back of the shop bottling their own on the premises, another initiative offered by Gary and John. Gary offered us a sample which is made available for anyone who is considering buying some of their range. From their catalogue, the range includes wheat free beers, ciders, premium beers, mid and light beers and low carb, just about anything to suit all tastes.
After the visit, as it was close to lunch time, some members chose to visit Harbour Town, others had other commitments to attend to while the short drive to Jabiru Island for a picnic lunch as per Allan’s notes was also taken by some. It had been some time since we had visited the Gold Coast on a club run so it was good to meet up with some of our members from the coast who we don’t regularly see. In all, an excellent day out and definitely a run with a difference. Our thanks to Allan for all the arranging and to Gary for his time in making all of us very welcome at his business.
