All British Day 2016
Due to wet grounds, this year’s event was postponed for one week from the advertised 18th Sept to 25th, 2016. As it turned out, we had a light drizzle early on the day but otherwise it was a perfect sunny Queensland spring day. The MG car club had well organised marshals and guides to get all the display vehicles to their nominated areas with a minimum of fuss. We had an allocated area which initially looked small but in the event with our fourteen display cars was all we needed.
Rex had the club’s shade shelter up in quick time and we arranged the cars around it. We made the lines as straight as possible. Doug brought down his partially restored Gipsy behind the 110 and the Gipsy chassis created a lot of interest. It is a very solid chassis. Robert LaRoche had four period suitcases on the roof rack of his A30 which looked in keeping with the 50s era. The view of his car when he was leaving reminded us of the scene of the Morris Minor that used to be part of the credits at the end of the BBC Antiques Roadshow. Well done Robert.
Also joining us for the day was Pat and Brenda Hand from Clamavale with their recently restored A40 Pickup, a fully imported vehicle originally sold by UK and Dominion Motors in 1951. Pat’s first car when he lived in the UK was one of vehicles and now living in Australia he bought this one up about 10 years ago and has fully restored it. A very nice job.
